On Monday, 3rd October 2022, Al Fitrah Foundation Founder and Trustee, Puan Sri Norma Hashim and her team visited Sekolah Kebangsaan Pendidikan Khas (SKPK) Jalan Batu in Kuala Lumpur. Ten sets of Islamic braille literature were handed over to the school’s library.

Between mid-October and early-November 2022, Al Fitrah will be contributing another 48 sets of braille books, including regular reference materials and story books.

It’s called a “book famine”- There are very few books available in braille format so Majid our braille editor is kept very busy producing books for schools and blind readers worldwide. Tuesday, 20th September 2022. Brother Mohammed Lamine and a friend visited Al Fitrah Foundation and bought a set of braille Quran before leaving for Mali the following day. He will present it to a leader at a centre in Mali.

Brother Majid from the editorial team, showed the guests a copy of the braille Quran and read out a few verses. Then, they discussed Al Fitrah Foundation’s programmes for the visually impaired in Malaysia and internationally.

Al Fitrah Foundation began its foodbank initiative during the pandemic, to support families in need of daily essentials. It was humbling to see the response on the ground and to be able to reach out to support the people. After seeing the progress gaining momentum, we decided that having a proper location would serve the folks better. We had been working with the team at Somali Refugee Centre (SRC) in Gombak, Kuala Lumpur on quite a few occasions with delivering and distributing food, hence, we decided that it was the most natural place to station our Foodbank.

Through one of Al Fitrah Foundation’s regular food programs, we reached out to 41 families both visually impaired as well as deserving local folks within Klang Valley this August. They received RM100 worth of grocery vouchers and food package consisting of rice, biscuits, flour, cooking oil, sugar, seasoning sauce and canned food.

Al Fitrah’s team headed to two mosques serving different communities and selected homes of the visually impaired to deliver the goodies while others collected their share of the food aid at Al Fitrah’s office.
