July has been a truly busy month for Al Fitrah’s team. They share the load and work towards making things happen for all.
Visually Impaired Awareness Workshop
10 & 11.07.23. Abdul Majid, Al Fitrah’s Head of Editorial and Publishing, was invited to participate as a facilitator at a corporate workshop to raise awareness on the importance of including visually impaired brothers and sisters in the Malaysian society.
Majid has been trained to facilitate such sessions and hopes to continue to contribute in any way he can to raise awareness on this topic.
At the week-long event attended by employees of a local investment group, the workshops were held in a dark room. At first the participants felt uncomfortable doing activities in the dark, but after adapting to the situation, they were able to perform all tasks smoothly.
Some of the tasks carried out in the workshops would have been easy to complete if they were done in bright conditions. As they were done in the dark, the participants faced many challenges.
To sum up, everyone was satisfied with the new experience they gained during the sessions. Many realised that being able to see is an invaluable gift from God.
Children's Story Books
7, 14 & 21.07.23. Al Fitrah’s Editorial team has transcribed several children’s pictorial books in the past few weeks for the library. The titles would also be suitable for school resource centres and libraries, and we would from time to time restock the braille storybooks for them.
The Pahang Public Library
12.07.23. Mr. Matnor visited Al Fitrah twice this month on his trip to Kuala Lumpur from Kuantan, Pahang. He works at the public library in the East Coast state of Malaysia.
There is a small section where braille books are displayed at the library. As there is a steady flow of visually impaired visitors, braille books have become scarce. Mr. Matnor is determined to ensure the readers can get hold of new reading materials.
Al Fitrah has since donated over twenty story books and Islamic reading materials to the library. More books will be delivered next week as the library is scheduled to hold a book exhibition soon.
Recycling Exercise
20.07.23. Every six months the team discards shredded documents, used and damaged cartons and other unwanted items from the office and storeroom. It was nice to get everyone involved to pack the items that were collected over the past few months and to cast them off at the recycling centre.
Our team keeps in mind the importance of preserving the planet and limiting waste when printing our books.
More to come, stay tuned!
